Hide-N-Seek – Who hasn’t played ?!
When our three daughters were little, it was just a game of screeching. The one who shouted the loudest was found first. Our two older daughters were always calmer than our younger one and they found good hiding places.
After a short nap in the recliner, I could usually find them pretty quickly. (~ ok, I didn’t take a nap, but that was a very serious thought.) “Daaaad, please come and get us!” They would cry! In no time at all, I grabbed them, and then it was, yes⦠“tickle time.”
Oh, those bursts of laughter that erupted still echo in my head. Our youngest daughter always hid in the most obvious places every time. When I pretended I couldn’t find her, she would always scream, “I’m right here, Daddy!” I just HERE! For her, the goal of the game was to be found as soon as possible.
You and I follow a God who does not intend to be delusional. For him, there is no value in a game of hide and seek where he cannot be found. For all intents and purposes, all He gives us in the scriptures is, “I’m right here!” I’m here! âHe wants us to find him as fast as possible!
In fact, the purpose of our life is to find him and his amazing grace and mercy as soon as possible, and then help others to do the same. It fits even in the most obvious places so we can’t miss it⦠no one can miss it, even if they avoid looking. (Romans 1:20)
When my daughters and I switched roles and they looked for me, I had two basic options:
1. Hide on the roof … in the attic … leave in my car for Chick-Fil-A … go anywhere I knew they would never find me
2. Find an easy place where they can all find me at the same time. Then I would jump and roar⦠and they were all using their god-given defense mechanism – the girls’ shrill cry⦠every time! And my fiancee and I would hunt them down and capture them and tickle them mercilessly (hoping they didn’t have to change their pants).
No matter where you are in life, God is not hiding from you! He wants you and I to find him so badly! And unbelievably, He’s in the most obvious place there is; pray.
12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, âdeclares the Lord⦠(Jeremiah 29: 12-14a)
In this place of prayer, no matter how hard life is for you, our Sovereign God is there, waiting to save you from everything, even from yourself.
Ready for the ultimate game of hide and seek? He is waiting!
