LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–True Religion, an iconic American clothing and accessories brand, has tapped London-based Nigerian artist and skateboarder Soldier for an exclusive capsule collection that will bring Soldier’s camo prints to life. The collection, featuring t-shirts, denim jackets and jeans, hoodies, cargo pants and hats, unites Soldier’s art with True Religion’s unique style, modernizing the camouflage hip-hop uniform iconic of the 90s and 2000s and reflecting Soldier’s message of unity and peace. the streetwear community.

“While camouflage prints are part of True Religion‘s DNA, today’s headlines made us look at them differently. When we learned about Soldier’s story and how he uses camouflage as a message of peace , we knew it was the right partnership for us,” said Zihaad Wells, SVP, Creative Director of True Religion. “We are proud to partner with a young, up-and-coming designer who is also passionate about giving back. to those in need.”

Soldier, who was born Leonard Iheagwam, creates art that is a representation of his experiences in his homeland. As a child in Lagos, Nigeria, Soldier was interested in the camouflaged freighters he saw on the international hip-hop scene. He quickly adopted the look for himself, but the Nigerian army stopped him on the street and made him strip naked on the spot. This experience will one day find meaning when Soldier begins to experiment with his art, painting camouflage prints on canvas inspiring unity and peace, not war and destruction.

“The purpose of my paintings is to serve not only as a hiding place with its symbolism but also as a means of revealing an entire culture and creating new meaning,” Soldier said. “Take the normal military theme that represents violence and create a more beautiful meaning. Partnering with True Religion, a brand whose identity in the hip-hop scene is unparalleled, was a big step in my career and a way to give back to a community I grew up in.

True Religion is an iconic premium streetwear clothing brand founded in 2002. We were founded on the belief that denim is the common fabric of humanity, worn regardless of faith, class, ethnicity or orientation.

Our level of attention to detail is influenced by the pure desire to stand out. We want our denim to have personality, so we’ve stripped jeans down to their rawest form and learned how to amp up the most important details. We re-engineered standard sewing machines to perform the stitch techniques that are widely recognized today. After all these years, True Religion denim remains loud, authentic and heartbreaking, and we’re just getting started.
