Supreme silenced the rumors – the collaboration with Junya Watanabe everyone has been talking about? It’s real, and it’s coming this week.
Fresh out of its latest VF Corp certified collaboration with Timberland, Supreme is once again making headlines with its unwavering commitment to being the dominant force in creative partnerships.
Reddit forums and Instagram pages have been inflamed with speculation in recent weeks, with rumors circulating about a fall / winter 2021 collection from Supreme and Junya Watanabe. While it seemed clear that gout would definitely come, no one really expected it to hit the shelves so soon.
For those unfamiliar with the Japanese designer, Junya Watanabe began her journey in the industry by attending Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo and completing an apprenticeship as a pattern maker at COMME des GARÇONS shortly after graduating in 1984.
Watanabe then launched his eponymous collection in 1992.
Junya has made a name for herself throughout her career with an innovative approach to construction and figure, widely cited for her use of modern engineering materials.
Thanks to his worldwide fame, he has become somewhat of a cult icon, a status reinvigorated thanks to Kanye West’s recent track titled “Junya”.
For the collaborative collection, Supreme draws inspiration from Junya Watanabe’s extensive archives COMME des GARÇONS MAN, inspiring a head-to-toe range that blends the iconic DNA of the two brands.
The collection consists of a Schott® leather pea coat, a GORE-TEX denim parka and matching pants, patchwork puffer jackets and cargo pants as well as a selection of streetwear essentials like t-shirts and hats.
You know the chorus. Supreme x Junya Watanabe COMME des GARÇONS MAN arrives this Thursday in stores and on the Supreme website.
