Open letter to those getting married in New York State

We’ve all been to weddings before. Whether it’s for a close family member or a friend or someone who isn’t as close to you, we’ve reached out to them.

Some of us have attended our own weddings and if you’ve gotten married, or more importantly, are in the process of getting married, you know how stressful it can be.

My fiancée and I have been engaged since 2019 and are getting married at the end of the month. The pandemic pushed our wedding a year later than planned, but that was fine because we were still trying to save a little more money.

However, I can safely say that I underestimated the amount of work involved in planning a wedding. It’s also not about whether or not you have an expensive wedding, even if it adds more financial stress.

It’s the countless little details that come into play, which have very little to do with finances. For those getting married in New York State, there are a wide variety of venues to choose from, especially since we have both the city wedding and the country wedding available to us.

The invitation experience was eye-opening.

Trying to narrow down the number of people who will be invited, who gets a plus-one (who needs a plus-one), and keeping track of all of these factors as you try to work on other things during your wedding.

Maybe a long time ago it was easier, but now with the 40-50-60 hour work week that couples have, finding the time to properly plan a wedding has been the hardest part. to be engaged.

There were times when we missed sending a wedding invitation and got a message if he was invited? In reality, it wasn’t because we had decided that person wasn’t invited, it was just that they were overwhelmed and missing details. You really don’t see the size of your family tree close and extended until you’re planning a wedding.

Those who live out of state is another aspect.

Here in Buffalo, we don’t have as many direct flights as, say, New York, so it’s a little harder for family members or friends who live out of state to get there on time. For the wedding.

As we were on a budget, we wanted warm weather for our wedding, so we chose August for that warmth. If you’re planning a wedding in New York State and want to avoid the cold, you really only have five months out of the 12 to choose from, which adds more stress, since many couples have the same process of reflection and many dates are not available. .

Dates were already filling up for August 2022 when we booked in May 2021 – a full 15 months in advance.

To be clear, I’m more than happy to get married and have the woman of my dreams. However, I think family members and friends forget how stressful this time can be and this should not be overlooked.

Congratulations to those who got married this year or recently got engaged will say “I do” in 2023!
