In short, it probably won’t lead to debates about whether Andrew Garfield’s suit featured padded buttocks. Instead, this series sees Garfield in a much more emotional and questioning role. (Not that Spider Man does not offer us universally relatable themes.) Anyone would struggle if the basis of their life began to be questioned. Add to that a teaspoon of mystery and crime, and things get rough fast. Not to mention that extremes of any kind usually mean no good. We’re curious to see how this true-crime limited series tackles issues of faith and morality. When religion meets murder, it’s always the promise of something interesting. And Garfield seems like a particularly caring actor.

Under the banner of heaven does not yet have a release date. But it will premiere “soon” and land on Hulu when it does. In the meantime, those interested in this teaser can explore Jon Krakauer’s novel. You can never have too many books on your reading list, after all. And this one looks like a doozy.
